First Ubud Festival

The Ubud Community Board is preparing another Ubud first, a festival of events and activities starting 16 July and lasting for a full month. The director of Public Relations Anak Agung Gede Ariawan (locally known as Odeck) writes in a letter to Ubud News:

The Ubud Festival, a month long event, involving 13 banjars, and around 2,500 families, will be unique as it is involving the community at large for the purpose of healing the community by cultural activity. Already the community is in a hum of activity preparing for the upcoming events. Women’s gamelan troops and performance troops are rehearsing daily and the youth organization are preparing for art & cultural activities.

The Festival’s program will include health seminars and free medical check-ups and treatment for women, infants, priests, old artists, offering makers, spouses of veterans and street cleaners. There will be activities related to environment, the banjars will compete to clean up their streets and maintain their public garden areas. There will be competitions in sport related activities, as well as art, and ceremonial decoration and workshops for the arts & performing arts. A large parade will take place for the opening, and schedules of performances will take place regularly at the soccer field. A food market for all to enjoy will also be in the program. Other events and facilities will be available in the “wantilan” community hall.
